Just Breathe...

Updated: Apr 6, 2020

Remember the last time you fastened your seatbelt on an airplane? You were most likely full of excitement and anticipation, eager to get to your destination. Before take off the flight attendant goes over all the rules for safety. Many times people are too excited or perhaps still getting settled into their space, they miss some of the information being given. However, when asked, majority of individuals can recall the advice given about putting on your own oxygen mask before trying to help someone with theirs. To sum this concept up in two words-- Self care.

Self care is particularly important during challenging times like these. For example, understanding how stress can affect you both mentally and physically is very important. You can protect your physical and mental health by exercising, eating well, getting adequate sleep and practicing mindfulness, relaxation or breathing exercises. Also, while we are practicing "physical distancing" we do not have to be isolated or socially distant. What I mean is, face-timeing with friends, calling a family member, making a video journal to share with others...these are all great ways to care for yourself and boost your resilience. Taking time for yourself does not mean you are neglecting others. Please find time each day to do something for YOU that brings you peace or makes you happy. Be gentle with yourself during this time and remember, better days are ahead. JUST BREATHE!
