Earth Week is going virtual. Cirara Williams, Office of Sustainability for the City of Philadelphia, has brought the 50th Anniversary celebration of Earth Day to us. Williams begins with the history of Philadelphia being the first city to host an Earth Week, back in 1970. She describes sit-ins, demonstrations, educational teach-ins, and more.
She has also put together a list of Activities, including "Time travel to Earth Day 1970" wherein she leads you to "check out Temple's Digital Archives for throwback photos" and "Complete the Earth Day Challenge" with challenges throughout the month of April. In addition, there is a section on Virtual Events including the dates they will be offered. There is one entitled "Don't Be A Drip: Rain Barrel Workshop" and another entitled "Earth Day at 50: How Grassroots Organizing Became Part of our National Consciousness" as well as many more.
Some events are free, some ask for a donation.
Join the celebration!
