Procrastination in Quarantine

Updated: Apr 27, 2020

Procrastination. The act of putting responsibilities off until another day when we don't feel like dealing with them. Procrastination. This is something we have all done, even during quarantine! I am here to tell you to that you do not have to feel guilty about this.

While I hope that you do not complete all of your work in a deadline-induced panic, I understand that sometimes these things happen. Right now we may have more responsibilities to juggle than before quarantine: more school work, babysitting siblings, doing things around the house for our parent(s)/guardian(s), taking care of at-risk family members, trying to maintain our own self-care, etc. There is a lack of social connection and intimacy, and a loss of everything that a "normal" spring semester would bring. It can be hard to focus on our responsibilities when the whole world may feel like it's crashing down. Some days it may be easier to just lay in bed and watch Netflix. Do not hate yourself for having days like that right now. It is OKAY.

However, it is not okay when we display this behavior 24/7. We need to take small steps in moving forward and tackling the days ahead of us. Give yourself little projects to do every day - whether that is attending a Zoom class, writing a paper, sending an email, Face Timing a friend, watching a yoga YouTube video and following along, etc. Find something that you can enjoy to help you through the day that could lead you to be more motivated to face your responsibilities and complete the work you need to do!
